Competition in Schools

By Amina Danladi Umar

There is no doubt that sports play an important role in fostering unity and improving the health records and well-being of society. The discovery of talent, motivation derived, impact on body immunity, sharpening of the mind, emotional stability, mental alertness, and physical fitness are all among the immeasurable benefits of sporting activities in schools that can never be over-emphasised. Generally, the performance of a student in other aspects of life is highly dependent on his/her indulgence in sporting activities in schools. This is why schools organise inter-house sports competitions as exemplified by Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Academy in its inter-house sports competition coming on the 18th of February, 2023. It is also imperative for the educational authorities to organise and sustain inter-school competitions within the country to actualise the educational objective of global competitiveness. Sports in schools are a sine qua non for national development.
