Kano records 3,368 unregistered, non-state schools

The Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) has revealed that Kano state has 3,368 operating unregistered, non-state schools across 11 sampled local government areas.

According to a baseline report carried out by the project, 11 local government areas were sampled which include Bichi, Bunkure, Dawakin Tofa, Gabasawa, Karaye, Minjibir, Rimingado, Takai, Ungogo, Warawa and Wudil.

Findings in the report shows that the teachers to students ratio found in these schools stands at 31 teachers to 70,970 students as 42% of non-state schools were regarded as emerging, 37% establishing schools and 18% as enhancing schools.

30 (7.6%) non state unregistered schools had two or more private owners, 7 (1.8%) had other ownership, and 41 of the non state unregistered schools (10.4%) were owned by non-religious foundations and 316 (80.2%) of the nonstate unregistered schools by a single private owner.
