University of Nigeria (UNN) Secondary School has been awarded a N200,000 scholarship prize for winning the science competition of the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF).
Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria (CAAN) hosted a two-day science competition at UNN in Enugu state.
The event also featured Chevening science teachers training where over 50 teachers were retrained.
It was gathered that 30 secondary schools in the state participated in the competition and each school presented three representatives.
The University of Nigeria Secondary School, Enugu Campus was represented by Okolie Chigozie, Ugwuegbu Precious and Chinazam Ugbozor, who won and was awarded N200,000 and other prizes such as eco-bags, school bags, and writing materials.
Holy Rosary Secondary School took the second position with a scholarship prize of N100,000 and was represented by Okere Kosi Richards, Chibata Chinaza, and Akinoso Lope Elizabeth,while Command Day Secondary School and Federal Government College came in third and fourth positions respectively.
The project manager of the Chevening science competition for the southeast, Lucky Nonyelum said the programme was in partnership with the Inspired Initiative for Inclusive Education in Nigeria.
Nonyelum said the aim of the programme was to promote scientific literacy and the use of scientific principles in problem-solving among students.
One of the winners of the competition, Chinazam Ogbozor described the exercise as a veritable platform for students to expand their knowledge while Chibata Chinaza, a representative of Holy Rosary Secondary School, said the process was fair and transparent.
The student attributed her school’s success as the runner-up to teamwork and thanked the organisers of the event.
