The wicked mother

By Rahmatullah Yusuf Adam

Once upon a time, there lived a family which consisted of three children.

Their father died due to an accident in Abuja. They lived with their mother named Mrs Ijeoma. After the death of their father, Ijeoma raised the children. The first daughter was called Juwan, the second, a brother, was called Joseph and their little sister was called Esther.

Their mother always showed that she loved the youngest child, Esther, the most. Whenever Esther did wrong, she always pampered her instead of correcting or advising her, but if her siblings did wrong, she always scolded them which always made the children hate their mother for her intolerant and boss character.

One day, when she was back from work, she met Joseph in the sitting room lying on the chair. She then started shouting. As he woke up and asked her what happened, she asked him why he was sleeping in the parlour. Joseph was silent for some minutes; she then went in and brought out a cane then started flogging Joseph who, out of anger and frustration, then took a small stool that was beside him and angrily hit it on her head. The little sister came to the living room and saw what was happening which made her break into tears. All the neighbours heard cry of Esther and came to see what was happening but as they arrived, they did not even bother to ask what happened to their mother but quickly took her to the hospital for immediate treatment because she was losing a lot of blood. After the treatment, they also stitched Joseph’s wound.

After about thirty minutes, the mother woke up and asked Esther where she was. Esther then replied, “You are at the hospital.” A few minutes later, the doctor told her that she had been discharged. They all went home. After the incident, she apologised to her children, and they became one happy family.

Moral: Never show a difference among your children.
