Alumni to support school with N12m laboratory infrastructure

Government College Ikorodu Old Students Association (GCIOSA) on Saturday said it would provide N12 million worth of laboratory infrastructure to boost science education in the school.

Mr Ademola Somide, Vice President, GCIOSA, made the disclosure at the prize-giving day ceremony organised by the GCIOSA at the school hall in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Somide said that good infrastructure would promote the academic excellence of the students during learning.

“What we have done primarily today is to appreciate our young ones, the upcoming ones, by a way of prize giving ceremony which we organised for them.

“The major problem we have right now is the infrastructural decay. The classes they take lectures, the environment, is so bad to the extent that when rain falls the classes are flooded.

“So, we the almuni will support the school in our little way because the government can not do all.

“We will to provide the school with a N12 million laboratory for the junior secondary school.” he said.

Earlier, Mrs Modupe Adefolarin, Principal of the school, commended the alumni of the school over the prize-giving initiative.

She said it would encourage academic excellence in both students and teachers, and solicited more support to give the school a facelift.

Adefolarin said in 2021, the school improved tremendously and got 98.8% in the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) compared to 2020 when it was affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

“All thanks to everyone who gave their utmost best to see that we achieved that. We are not relenting on our oars as we hope to up the game this year again, God on our side.

“You will all agree with me that the progression was a great leap and we are not beating our drums yet as we believe it’s not over.

“We hope to make more strides both academically and otherwise.

“We are more determined as a body and with the help of old students and parents, it’s certain we are going to be staying at the top”, she said. (NAN)
