The NB- Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund has commissioned a Language Laboratory at Keke High School, Ifako Agege, Lagos, in honor of Adeola Adefemi, the 2023 winner of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition.
This is even as it announced an increase in the prizes for the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition this year.
The grand prize winner will go home with N10m instead of N6,500,000, first runner-up will receive N3,000,000 instead of N1,000,000, the second runner-up will receive N2,000,000 instead of N750,000 while the State Champions will each receive N1,000,000 instead of five N500,000.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon Jamiu Alli-Balogun who commissioned the laboratory appreciated the efforts of Keke High School in making Lagos state proud while thanking the donor for its continuous support especially in the area of capacity building for teachers in Lagos state.
He urged the fund to continue to do more in improving the educational sector.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Patience Aina appreciated the fund for the donation of a language laboratory, highlighting its importance in improving the academic performance of the students in the District especially in the area of oral English.
At the commissioning of the well equipped Digital Language laboratory with 20 computer desktops, the Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan represented by the Head of Sustainability and Regulatory Relations, Chukwuemeka Aniukwu acknowledged the academic excellence of Keke High School, which emerged as the “Best Senior Secondary School” in the 2020 Lagos State Governor’s Quiz Competition and the winner of the 2024 Lagos Reads Inter-Schools Quiz Competition.
Speaking on the significance of the commissioning, Morgan said: “To honor our promise to Adeola Adefemi and to promote modern and interactive learning techniques in our schools, it makes us exceptionally proud that we are doing this in an institution renowned for impacting academic excellence in students.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, now in its tenth year, has celebrated and recognized outstanding teachers across the country, both in public and private secondary schools.
Speaking with Teen Trust, the Maltina Teacher of the Year, Adeola Adefemi, expressed joy and thanked the organizers of the Maltina Teacher of the Year award, saying it has been a life-changing experience for her.
She also highlighted that the language laboratory will be very impactful to the students who will have access to it.
